Description

Small, rectangular format; a large, central tree with discs on which birth dates of chldren are entered. At bottom left a hip-roofed house with two chimneys and red door with pediment. At right a fenced grove of trees, and walking man in red coat with cane. At base of tree, five entwined hearts bear names and marriage dates of Abraham Channel 1779, and Abagail Burnham; and Wealthy, 1814 Frame: black, simple mitered-cornered, stenciled frame.

Little"" 7- On wood backing, on a typed, wooden label: ""Channel- Burnham Family Record, Essex/ Painted by William Seville [sic], a Gloucester/ school teacher in 1795./ The pictorial quality of this record is most unusual and bespeaks the hand of a professional penman rather than that of a schoolgirl./ By the date it was painted the first wife had died, and provision was made by a second heart for another possible marriage.""
