Each earring in this pair is composed of a collet-set moonstone at top, from which is suspended a second, identical moonstone, with a narrow gold bar separating the two stones. The earrings attach with gold ear wires.
"Mementos: Jewelry of Life and Love from Historic New England": In 1914, at age sixty-seven, Margaret Duncan Phillips traveled around the world. When she arrived in Sri Lanka she acquired several pieces of jewelry, including a set of moonstones, which cost 41 rupees. The minimal settings of this set, which may not include those Sri Lanka moonstones, reflect the style of the early twentieth century.
