This brooch is composed of two off-set horizontal gold bars, each with ball-shaped ends. The brooch is set at the center with a carved moonstone shamrock set with a round amethyst, ending in a gold stem. While cataloged as part of a set, it is stylistically different from the rest of 2006.44.131 and may have been purchased separately but housed together.
"Mementos: Jewelry of Life and Love from Historic New England": In 1914, at age sixty-seven, Margaret Duncan Phillips traveled around the world. When she arrived in Sri Lanka she acquired several pieces of jewelry, including a set of moonstones, which cost 41 rupees. The minimal settings of this set, which may not include those Sri Lanka moonstones, reflect the style of the early twentieth century.
