Description

Colored lithograph of oblong rectangular format. It shows a small sailing schooner flying the American flag, with six men onboard, rounding the Eastern Point Light. Beside the lighthouse there stand two men waving hats and a woman waving a handkerchief. It has a plain black frame with thinly painted solid inner mouldings, and mitered corners; glazed.

Inscription

Printed below the image is: The Schooner Edward A. Horton/as she appeared rounding Eastern Point Light, Gloucester, Mass. Oct.18th, 1871, after her re-capture/from the Canadian government by Capt. Knowlton and his gallant crew of six men . Below the image in the center, in very small print reads: Entered According To Act Of Congress In The Year 1873 By Haskells & Allen In The Office Of The Librarian Of Congress At Washington . To the right of the last inscription is witten: 61 Hanover St. Boston, Mass. Affixed to the brown paper backing on the back of the picture, is an original page from ""American Neptune"", 1966, describing the vessel Edward A. Norton in a caption under a photo of the actual vessel. It gives the brief history of the event depicted in the print.
