Description

This album has a wooden cover decorated with relief carving. William Sumner Appleton received it from his cousin, Alice Longfellow. Its original owner was Rev. Samuel Longfellow, the brother of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. It contains cartes de visite of the Longfellow family, including Henry Wadsworth. Some of the photographs are unidentified. Some of the identified photographs include Charles Sumner, Ralph Waldo Emerson and the Marquis of Lorne (John Campbell, the Ninth Duke of Argyll). There is also an empty space with "Melville" written below.
