Label

"Conant, Ball Company made and sold furniture in Gardner and Boston's North End from the second half of the nineteenth century until they went out of business in 1980. In the twentieth century they produced a "Colonial" line, a "Cape Cod" line, and an "American Modern" line designed by Russell Wright. These chairs are from a set of twenty-four owned by the Woman's Literary Union in Portland, Maine. They were probably purchased around 1916 when the WLU added an auditorium and banquet hall to their headquarters on Spring Street."
