Description

Six chromolithographs mounted on canvas roll. From left to right: 1. "Barricade on the Boulevard Montmartre, Feb. 24, 1848"-- Men constructing barricade of tree, wagon rubble, w/ crowd and city in background. Three French flags along barricade one reads: Rebublique." 2. "Hall of the National Assembly of France"-- Polotical assembly hall w/ bench for chair at back, backs of benches for politicians on either side, and benches for spectators at front. Caption reads "Opening of the assembly May 4, 1848" 3. "The Hotel de Ville, Paris"-- Caption is "Lamartine addressing the people, Feb. 26, 1848." Image of Lamartine in front of hotel w/ crowd of people surrounding him. 4. "California Gold Diggers"-- Shows Anglo and Native American workers panning on river and mining on mountain side. Tent and teepee panner's quarters. 5. "Battle of Monterey"-- Caption reads "Americans forcing their way to main plaza, Sept 23, 1846. Battle scene w/ Americans on left, Mexicans on right and citadel in background. 6. "Storming of Chapultee in Mexico, Sept 13 1844"-- Battle scene w/ Mexicans taking stand near a building on top of hill, Americans below, emerging from jungle.
