Description

Etching of the characters that make up Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. At the front of the pilgrimage, the miller leads while playing the bagpipes. Behind him the host is talking to several men. The nineteenth person in the etching is Chaucer who regards the viewers. Each character is numbered below. The wife of Bath, pardoner, monk and friar are followed by the artisans. Frame: 3 1/4 in.
