Description

A herd of sheep graze on the lawn in front of the clubhouse of the Essex Country Club in Manchester, Massachusetts to keep the grass trimmed. Croquet wickets are implanted in the lawn. The clubhouse was dedicated on July 29, 1893. Architect Herbert Jacques was involved in the design. The original building was destroyed by fire on March 14, 1913. The second building was designed by the Boston firm, Parker, Thomas & Rice.
