View of commercial buildings at the corner of Adams St. and Dorchester Ave., Dorchester, Mass.

Description

Road work is underway at the intersection of Adams Street and Dorchester Avenue in front of various commercial buildings in Fields Corner, Dorchester, Boston, Massachusetts. According to the 1908 "Boston City Directory", Fred William Connolly owned a drugstore at 1436 Dorchester Avenue, and Robert H. Billings owned a drugstore at 1439 Dorchester Avenue. Other sources give Connolly's address as 1434 Dorchester Avenue. A small structure in the middle of the street bears several signs: "Real Estate"; "This building for sale, to be removed"; "M.E. White, electrician"; and "will remove to 1438 Dorchester Ave., room 3, Oct. 1st." There is also a poster for Dorchester Flower Day in the window. According to "The Boston Globe" articles of October 1913 and 1915, this was a fundraiser for local charities such as Dorchester House and the Dorchester Free Clinic.
