Description

Album of small original photographs c 1910-1920. Album, together with Album # 247, is green morocco and green cloth, ribbed 6 panel spines. From the private library of Edward Osbourne Bassett. Most photos mounted in albums with a few loose between the pages. They have been removed to a separate folder.

Contains 315 small 2 3/8 x 3 1/2 black and white photographs of historical sites throughout Massachusetts with typed annotations. Towns include Boston, Cambridge, Dedham (Fairbanks House), Saugus, Roxbury, Charlestown, Sudbury, Watertown ( Charles River and Mt Auburn Cemetery), Dorchester, Lexington, Concord, Salem, Quincy ( Adams homsestead), Marshfield ( Winslow house) and Plymouth. Sites include early history of Harvard University, historic sites of Boston and Cambridge, historic houses in Concord, Dedham and Salem, and other historic statues and architecture throughout Massaschusetts. The last 26 photographs were taken in Plymouth including Plymouth Rock and monuments honoring the pilgrims. Grave sites are shown including tombs of Cotton Mather, John Hancock, Edmund Hart (builder of Old Ironsides), Nathaniel Hawthorne, Paul Revere, Phillips Brooks, and Mary "Mother" Goose.
