Description

This album contains 121 black-and-white photographs, mostly 4 1/2 x 2 1/2 inch, mounted with double-sided tape, and dating from the early 20th century. There are no annotations or accompanying captions.

These views, mostly rural landscapes, appear to have been taken in northern New England, possibly Vermont or New Hampshire. Individuals and small groups are photographed against a background of winter and summer scenes, woodlands, meadows, corn fields, stone walls, and natural stone formations. Images of small streams, waterfalls and early spring flowers (possibly mayflowers) are included. Several scenes depict individuals rowing on a lake and there are others of groups enjoying a picnic. Larger group photographs depict children and adults at what could possibly be a summer camp. Images of women's costumes are of interest, especially those wearing hats of the period. Gentlemen are depicted wearing business attire. Images of favorite pets include a dog, a cat, horses and cows. One striking photograph is of a well-dressed young woman seated on a woodpile with needlework in her hand.
