Historical/Biographical Note

Historical/Biographical Note

Edward Henry Little was born in 1819 and died in 1877. He married Catherine Adams Little (1823-1922). Mr. Little was a very successful farmer and a man of much ability, owned the best farm in Newbury, was prominent in town affairs, a director in Newburyport First National bank, and trustee of the Savings Bank and the Essex Agricultural Society. Edward Henry Little was not just a farmer and public servant. He was a real estate investor, mortgage lender, bank officer and part owner in the 1870s of the ship Exporter. His obituary (Newburyport Herald, March 1, 1877) noted that he was "a man of good judgment, liberal towards the poor, and in a different sense of the word liberal in politics and in religion."
