Historical/Biographical Note

Historical/Biographical Note

Alfred Rundlet was born March 3, 1811. He chose to remain in Portsmouth and at age twenty-three succeeded his brother William in the dry goods business in 1834. He married Martha Dwight on January 4, 1835. They had three children, Frances Matilda, Elizabeth Jane, and Josiah Dwight Rundlet. Alfred later went to California, though not to settle, perhaps expecting to turn a quick profit and return east. He died in San Francisco shortly after his arrival, in 1851, at age forty.
