Description

Wooden outrigger canoe model, possibly from the Caroline Islands in Micronesia. The main canoe body is painted black on the outside along the waterline. The canoe is curved up at either end but more pronounced at the stern (back) where the curve ends in two prongs where the steering oar (now missing) would have been held. The mast is attached to the center of the canoe, and the sail is triangular-shaped and made of woven mat fibers. The model was likely made as a souvenir.
