Description

The Hiram Harlow Photographic Collection consists of over 1,000 original negatives and many original prints. Coverage is primarily of local residences and farms, often viewed in association with their occupants, in Shrewsbury, Northborough, Westborough, and other nearby towns in Massachusetts.

Of special interest are views of various occupations, such as a wheelwright's shop, a general store, and a local schoolroom, that function as inventories to equipment utilized in these settings by the individuals who are portrayed.

Hiram Harlow was born in 1906 in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. He was an historian of the cities of Shrewsbury and Boylston, Massachusetts. Harlow collected the negatives from several local photographers, both amateur and professional, who were active in the 1890s to the 1920s.
