Description

Transfer printed in medium blue w/ an exotic scene of pagoda-like building, bizarre trees and bushes and a camel w/ people in the foreground. This scene is enclosed by a pale blue border w/ delicate flowering vines and 8 floral-edged reserves w/ floral sprays or exotic buildings and greenery. The scenes vary w/ form of serving item. This item is a tureen w/ undertray. A)--Small squat full lobed and bellied dish w/ shaped bracket base and a leaf-molded projecting handle at each end. Gilt flourishes. B)--Domed lobed cover w/ serpentine edge and oval molded top; cut-out at edge for ladle. Knop broken off. C)--Under tray of oval form w/ rolled serpentine edge and shaped and molded tab handle. Gilt flourishes.

Inscription

Transfer underglaze and incised on bottom: Transfer underglaze: Mark in medium blue showing urn and beehive on a rectangular platform enclosed by greenery. The platform is inscribed ""ORIENTAL"". ""W.R."" is inscribed underneath ""ORIENTAL."" The name ""Ridgways"" is over the image and ""ENGLAND"" is under the image. Incised: Each piece incised w/ 2 or 3 numbers or letters.
