Description

A small wood, red and gold painted, box in the shape of a coffin. There are incised decorations on the top and one side. The box is joined with different sized nails, most are square-headed. The angling of the coffin sides are created by making partial cuts in two side panels, and bending and nailing them along the sides. Four large holes were made in the bottom of the coffin, perhaps to accommodate the feet. Slightly raised circles are visible around incised designs to assist the maker in carving. Some moisture stains are visible on the lid and bottom of the coffin. The top and bottom edge of the lid have scalloped inside edges.
