He was born in Boston September 16, 1796. / A midshipman in 1814, and fought in the Battle of Lake / Champlain with so much gallantry that Congress presented / him with a sword. Some letters relating to his service, / and a button in a frame that was on his coat. He died / in 1818 of typhoid fever contracted in the war." (Paper label)
