Silhouette cut from black paper and set on white paper of a man preaching from a pulpit with one arm raised and pointing to the sky, mounted in a veneered wood frame with black borders.
Augustin Edouart cut this silhouette of Rev. Charles Simeon (1759-1836) in 1828. The Rev. Simeon attended Eton College before King's College in Cambridge, where he became a Fellow in 1782. The following year he was made Vicar of Trinity Church, Cambridge. While he never held the Doctorate, the Reverend Simeon remained a Fellow and a Vicar in Cambridge until his death in 1836. This silhouette is one of a series Edouart cut of Simeon in in the pulpit.
