Description

Massachusetts Charitable Mechanic Association award medal for Doe, Hazelton & Co for awarding their carved furniture. On the heads side of the medal is a female figure with mechanical pieces under her feet and a shield on her left side. The shield is decorated with an arm holding a hammer, with a train on a bridge and a building on either side of the figure in the foreground. Inscription is engraved on the tails side, surrounded by a decorative flower garland with four medallions.

Inscription

Heads: “Be just and fear not” on the shield, “F.N. Mitchell SC.” on the bottom. Tails: Around the edge, “Massachusetts Charitable Mechanic Association/Founded 1795/ Inco 1806”. Engraved in the middle “Award to Doe, Hazelton & Co for best upholstered work. Exhibition of 1850." (stamped)
