Community Preservation Grant awarded in Connecticut

Sep 3, 2014

On August 25, Historic New England Executive Vice President Diane Viera presented a 2014 Community Preservation Grant to the Greater New Haven Labor History Association.

The $1,000 grant will be used to produce eight additional panels for Our Community at Winchester: An Elm City Story, an exhibition about the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. It includes photographs showing the company’s presence in New Haven through 2006 and excerpts from oral histories with former workers.

The presentation took place at New Haven’s City Hall, where Our Community at Winchester is currently on display. New Haven Mayor Toni Harp, State Senator Martin Looney, members of the Labor History Association staff and board, and some of the workers who did oral histories for the exhibition also attended.
