Castle Tucker parlor wallpaper restored

May 28, 2010

Historic New England’s conservation team recently restored the wallpaper in the parlor at Castle Tucker. Originally hung in the 1880s, the wallpaper was detached from the wall in many places around the room, the original glue having failed. Historic New England staff carefully removed the wallpaper, relined it with removable Japanese tissue paper, then re-hung the original paper, piece by very large piece. Today, the paper looks as if it had never been touched, but we know it is now stable for the foreseeable future.
