Historic New England began painting the entirety of Rundlet-May House in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, this fall. Earlier, thecarpentry crew visited to see if wood repairs were necessary before fresh paint was applied. They discovered damage to the long rowof sheds that connects the 1807 house to its carriage barn.
The resulting carpentry project encompassed two major structural repairs and extensivereplacement of the sheathing and trim. Carpenters shaped large oak timbers and wide pine decorative sheathing, and reproduced the property’s classical trim details, along with a huge panel of custom-builtlattice.
Pleaseconsider helping with future projects of this kind at historic properties throughout New England with a gift to the Preservation Maintenance Fund.
