Carpenters repair barn door at Codman Estate

Jul 11, 2013

The elegant Codman Estate inLincoln, Massachusetts, hosts numerous weddings every year. The estate’s carriage barn, with itsquoin corners, pediment window casing, and elaborate cornice detailing, providesa beautiful setting for receptions. A building that hosts such memorable events needsto be maintained in a condition both attractive and functional. A great deal ofwork has been done in the past few years to keep the carriage barn at its best.

Most recently, HistoricNew England’s carpentry crew made substantial repairs to one of the barn’s massivesliding doors. The work was done inside the barn itself during the wintermonths. While the weather made for less-than-luxurious working conditions, thetiming allowed the project to be completed over several weeks in January and February, well in advance of the busy spring andsummer wedding season.

The door was re-hung and adjusted before this year’s first wedding and should look good and functionwell for years to come. Please consider supporting essential preservation work at Historic New England’s thirty-six propertieswith a gift to the Preservation Maintenance Fund.
