The preservation services team at Historic New England is a valuable resource for Historic Homeowner members, owners of properties in the Preservation Easement Program, and communities seeking advice on local preservation strategy.

When regional and national media outlets need insight on old-house issues, they often ask our staff. Senior Preservation Services Manager Sally Zimmerman, an expert on historic paint colors, appeared in a January episode of the PBS television program This Old House. She gave the owner of an Arts and Crafts house in Arlington, Massachusetts, advice on selecting the right shade, balancing period-appropriate tones with the homeowner’s taste.

YankeeMagazine.com also provides a regular platform for our staff to answer your old-house questions. Each month, the website’s “Expert Home Advice” column gives Historic New England specialists an opportunity to answer homeowners’ questions.

Whether you found something unusual while working on your house, want to balance preservation of historic features with energy efficiency, or are curious about why old houses were built the way they were, we’d love to hear from you. Become a Historic Homeowner member and get access to personalized expertise from our staff. We might even share the answers to your questions with Yankee readers.
