Description: Do you want to be a part of a dynamic fundraising team? Historic New England is the oldest and largest regional heritage organization in the nation, and we are looking for a creative and detail-oriented person to join our development team as our prospect manager. The person in this position is an integral member of the development team, our on-staff detective and database resource. Your job will have you sleuthing details from a variety of sources, making sense of them, and then fitting them together in ways that help us see the bigger picture.
The prospect manager will leverage publicly available resources, prospect data, and capacity ratings and synthesize data into reports that drive strategic planning for gift officers and volunteers. This position assists in building the development team’s capabilities through analysis of wealth and philanthropy of prospective donors and the strategic identification of new prospects. The prospect manager promotes established moves-management processes and assists development team members with the maintenance of their portfolios. Additionally, the prospect manager is responsible for coordination and planning of Annual Gifts Committee and Governance Committee materials and staff meetings.
This person has strong writing skills to develop individual proposals and acknowledgements. This position also develops the annual fund mail appeal and segments and tracks all requests. The prospect manager supervises the development gift processor to ensure timely and accurate recording of all gifts, and of acknowledgement letters for gifts under $1,000. The role of prospect manager requires creative problem solving and a high level of interaction with other staff members.
The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented problem solver with excellent analytical abilities. Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum of three years conducting prospect research, with demonstrated experience in prospect research methodology and practice. Strong computer skills and proficiency with research tools and experience with fundraising databases are required.
Responsibilities: The prospect manager is responsible for development prospect and donor research, moves management, and Historic New England’s annual fund direct mail. This individual works closely with other members of the organization in cultivating, stewarding, and soliciting donors and members. Oversees individual donor research, attribute coding, database report generation, iWave screenings and ratings, and prospect and donor briefing preparation. Oversees donor and prospect management through donor communications, cultivation events, and solicitation proposals. Assists in the coordination and planning of Annual Gifts Committee and Governance Committee strategy and staff meetings. Plans and implements annual fund mail and electronic appeals to meet annual budget goals. Supervises the development gift processor.
Qualifications: Requires a bachelor’s degree and three years of experience, preferably on a development team. The employee in this position must be extremely organized and able to thrive in a fast-paced setting while maintaining precise attention to priorities, formats, procedures, details, and quality. Excellent interpersonal communication, writing skills, tact, and diplomacy are required for regular interaction with high-level internal and external constituents. Requires excellent internal and external customer service skills. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality. Requires fully proficient computer skills, including advanced working knowledge of MS Office, databases, internet research, and email management. Valid driver’s license is required.
Other Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience with Raiser’s Edge or Tessitura database strongly preferred.
