Classification: Regular/part-time (variable weekly hours, 23 hours per week maximum)
Location: Arnold House, Lincoln, R.I.
Description: The Museum Teacher is responsible for teaching school and youth programs at Arnold House and in the community. The primary goal of the Museum Teacher is to provide the greatest access to Historic New England through high quality school and youth programs.
Responsibilities: The Museum Teacher’s primary responsibility will be to team teach school and youth programs at Historic New England’s Arnold House in Lincoln, Rhode Island, as well as outreach programs at school and youth organizations. Programs are offered to elementary and middle school-aged students and emphasize an interactive, hands-on approach to learning history. The Museum Teacher will also be responsible for related tasks, including opening and closing the museum, cleaning the museum, setting up and breaking down programs, receiving program monies and evaluations, and reporting daily attendance numbers. The Museum Teacher will also assist the Education Program Coordinator with some administrative duties and monitoring and preparing program supplies. The position offers varied hours with a maximum of twenty-three hours of work per week.
Qualifications: A minimum of a B.A. in American history, education, museum studies, theater, or relevant field. Experience working with children is required. Willingness to be flexible and adaptable in all responsibilities and activities. Ability to drive and a valid driver’s license are required.
