Location: Lyman Estate, Waltham, Mass.

Description: Are you looking for a year-round landscaping position with an organization that is the national leader in the field of historic preservation? If so, then join our landscaping team at Historic New England. This is a full-time, all-year position with a generous benefit package. The groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the grounds at Historic New England’s Lyman Estate in Waltham, Massachusetts, to a very high standard of care. This position performs all aspects of lawn, garden, and hardscape care. Secondary responsibilities include the performance of minor building maintenance activities such as painting and gutter cleaning, care of the grounds at Browne House in Watertown, Massachusetts, and supporting public programs and functions as assigned.

This position is responsible for the care of gardens, plants, and landscapes at the Lyman Estate. Operates lawn mowers, heavy equipment, and standard landscape equipment including chainsaws and trimmers. Maintains all landscaping equipment. Performs heavy landscape construction and maintenance projects including new landscape installation, clearing brush, and repairing potholes. Keeps sites accessible during snow emergencies and routine snow removal from paths and building entrances to maintain access. Supports annual maintenance and service contracts of properties and provides access to outside contractors as instructed. Assists property care staff with maintenance, painting, and repairs to buildings and landscape features. Responds to security alarms and building or landscape emergencies.

Qualifications: Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED and suitable job-related experience. Knowledge of methods and practices used in landscape and equipment maintenance. Ability to operate effectively both individually and in a team environment. Ability to interact and communicate orally and in writing. A valid driver’s license is required. Basic computer skills including the use of email.
