Position: Farm Manager, Watson Farm
Location: Watson Farm, Jamestown, R.I.
Description: The farm manager is responsible for the management of Historic New England’s 265-acre Watson Farm in Jamestown, Rhode Island. Develops and maintains strong stewardship of the agricultural landscape and supports the greatest public access to the site while conforming to site preservation standards. Responsible for planning and implementing cattle and sheep operations in accordance with the approved business plan and meeting annual revenue goals. Responsible for all aspects of hay production, animal husbandry, and livestock management including breeding, managing herd health, and marketing cattle and sheep.
Qualifications: Four years job-related experience and the ability to work independently. Prior supervisory experience and problem-solving ability. Strong communication skills. Strong understanding of agricultural principles, whole-farm planning, crop rotation, soil enhancement methods, and soil science. Experience with animal husbandry and grass-based livestock operations. Experience operating, managing, and maintaining farm equipment.
