The Historic New England Collection – A Sense of Place, A Sense of Style

In an effort to share the sense of place, style, and character of Historic New England’s vast collections with a wider audience, a reproduction program was created in 1979, establishing contractual licensing agreements with fine manufacturers to develop products directly related to the collections.
The Historic New England Collection is a line of reproductions, adaptations, and inspirations manufactured by some of the finest companies and artisans in America. The originals of items in the Historic New England line are based on items in Historic New England's collections, and many can been seen in the house museums. Staff and curators are directly involved with the development of each item from concept to the final product. Items are carefully reviewed by Historic New England's curators to maintain the highest standard of excellence and to ensure that the spirit of the original designs is kept. To further our educational mission, information detailing the historical background of each product is provided for purchasers. A portion from the sales proceeds supports the care and preservation of the collections and furthers the educational programs of Historic New England.
Historic New England offers manufacturers and consumers an impressive pedigree in the reproduction field. It is the oldest, largest, and most comprehensive regional heritage organization in the nation. We bring history to life while preserving the past for everyone interested in exploring the authentic New England experience from the seventeenth century to today. Items are on view in thirty-six historic homes spanning five states. The organization shares the region’s history through vast collections, museum properties, archives, and family stories that document more than four hundred years of life in New England.
