Teresa and Ray Podeszwa
In 2001, the Podeszwas visited Historic New England’s Beauport, Sleeper-McCann and Cogswell’s Grant house museums and selected objects which have served as inspiration for their art form.
Paintings, carvings, and even an original fire bucket have been interpreted in their hand-painted sign boards. Their artistic skills bring a fresh and unique approach to American Folk Art. From weatherworn barn wood to antique mouldings, shutters, headboards, porch posts, turnings, and doors, the personality of the material often is the genesis of the inspiration and is preserved in the final piece.
Each piece is a hand-crafted original, authenticated with date and signature. Many have their own personal stories, often printed and attached to the piece. Seasoned collectors, practicing artists, and casual appreciators of historical craftsmanship and fine art all will find much to enjoy in the works of Teresa and Ray.
Teresa and Ray Podeszwa have been selected by Early American Life magazine as two of the Top 200 Artisans in the country for the last three years.
