Pairpoint Crystal Company
In 1995, the artisans at Pairpoint began reproducing the remarkable glass pieces on view at Historic New England’s Beauport, Sleeper-McCann museum in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Bowls, vases, flasks, and ornaments are created in vivid tones of cobalt blue, amethyst, and amber. Enjoy a photographic tour of Beauport and see the many ways Henry Davis Sleeper brought spaces and objects to life using his creative design and decorating skills.
Founded in 1837 in South Boston as the Mt. Washington Glass Company, Pairpoint is the oldest operating glass works in the country. For well over a century, Pairpoint glass has graced the tables, cabinets, and shelves of some of America's finest homes. In 1880, not long after The Mt. Washington Glass Company moved from Boston to New Bedford, it merged with Pairpoint Manufacturing – a silver and metalworks company founded by Thomas Pairpoint – the world-recognized British silversmith and designer. The new Pairpoint Company began designing extraordinary pieces – some mixed metal and glass, some were all glass. American glass is among the most valuable glass in the world and among the best of the best is glassware made by the Pairpoint Crystal Company.
