James Hastrich - Maker of Miniature Furniture

James HastrichSince 1996 Mr. Hastrich has been reproducing miniatures copied from original pieces in Historic New England’s Cogswell’s Grant in Essex, Massachusetts. Preparing measured drawings is the first step in the lengthy process of executing exact details while recreating tiny works of art. Careful and detailed photography allows the artisan to capture every fine detail. Traditional construction methods decorated with smoke and brush stroke graining on 1” and 2” scale pieces ensure the spirit of the original is kept.

Hastrich TrunkIn 1979, Mr. Hastrich has been making pieces c. 1680-1860 by hand and true to scale in every respect. Traditional methods and materials are used, such as square nails, mortise and tenon joints held together with wooden pegs, and drawers constructed with hand-cut dovetails. Fancy decorating techniques are done in the old manner. To contact Mr. Hastrich, please email jameshastrich@gwi.net
