History and Social Science

Through interactive presentations by museum teachers, group discussion, and inquiry-based exploration of museum spaces and objects, students fulfill the following standards for grades 3 through 5:

Grade 3

English Language Arts and Literacy

Students engage in conversation with museum teachers portraying historical persons, and thereby fulfill the following Speaking and Listening Standards for grades 3 through 5:

  • Ask and answer questions about information from a speaker, offering appropriate elaboration and detail.
  • Report on a topic or text, tell a story, or recount an experience with appropriate facts and relevant, descriptive details, speaking clearly at an understandable pace.
  • Speak in complete sentences when appropriate to task and situation in order to provide requested detail or clarification.
  • Adapt speech to a variety of contexts and tasks, using formal English when appropriate to task and situation.

 

Visual Arts

Students make watercolor sketches of the landscape and natural objects following the instruction of a museum teacher and thereby fulfill the following visual arts standards:

  • Learning Standards 1.1, 1.5, 2.1, 2.3, 2.4, 2.6, 2.7, 2.11
