Set for the Occasion
SPNEA’s Lyman Estate, The Vale, in Waltham, Massachusetts, is one of the last surviving examples of the great country estates that lay on the outskirts of Boston in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Today, the much loved family home extends its welcome to thousands of guests who attend private functions and corporate affairs at the property each year. The moment visitors pass through the stone pillars to the tree-lined drive, they enter another era. The house stands amid extensive lawns, shaded by ancient trees, in a landscape first laid out around 1800. Small wonder that the estate is considered a premiere setting for fairytale weddings, birthdays, and anniversaries.
The mansion’s interior features elegant architectural detail, high ceilings, and antiques and fine reproduction furniture. The stately central hall, staircase, and well-proportioned rooms permit flexible use of space, making the house readily adaptable to a variety of events. The business community finds it perfect for holiday parties, awards dinners, and meetings. Conveniently located just off Route 128, the Lyman Estate offers quiet and privacy that are ideal for corporate or institutional retreats.
The house can comfortably accommodate between 150 and 175 people, depending on the kind of event, the season, and whether or not a tent is added on the back lawn. Whether guests are viewing a peaceful snowfall in January or a wedding in the garden in June, the house and its thirty-five acres of landscaped grounds offer tranquil settings rich in historic atmosphere.
