Are you drawn to the décor of New England’s grand and historic homes? Do you seek a glimpse into the private homes of top pioneers in American design? Join the Ogden Codman Design Group to experience the treasures of architectural work and interior design at Historic New England.

Historic New England's vast resources of objects and properties include work created and collected by some of our country’s greatest design talents like Ogden Codman Jr., Henry Davis Sleeper, and Walter Gropius. The Ogden Codman Design Group is named after noted early twentieth-century architect and interior designer Ogden Codman Jr. He co-authored The Decoration of Houses with Edith Wharton, a book that revolutionized American interior design in the late nineteenth century.

Experience the work of design leaders firsthand at their historic residences, including the Gropius House in Lincoln, Mass. Built in 1938 by Walter Gropius, founder of German design school Bauhaus, the house received accolades for its efficiency and simplicity in design with innovative materials. Discover the forty rooms designed and arranged by Henry Davis Sleeper, one of America’s first professional interior designers, at the 1907 Beauport, Sleeper-McCann House in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Enjoy the distinctive Colonial Revival style Ogden Codman introduced to his ancestral home, the Georgian-style Codman Estate. Also called “The Grange,” this Lincoln, Massachusetts, home was built in the mid-eighteenth century and is furnished with Codman’s rich taste and art works from New York to Europe.
