WEATHERIZATION & ENERGY EFFICENCY
Lyman Estate

The conservation of the wooden windows at the Lyman Estate kicked off the slate of 2011 projects set to increase energy efficiency in the 1793 mansion. Improved energy efficiency does not necessarily require replacement of historic windows. While the sash are not quite a century old, they easily have more than another hundred years of life in them.

We met the challenge
The Preservation Maintenance Fund supports projects that contribute to the long-term sustainability of Historic New England's properties.
Examples include reducing costs by installing efficient heating systems, replacing roofs with materials that will be good for twenty or more years,
and resolving water penetration issues. Learn more about these projects in blog updates written by our staff experts.
The fund was launched when Historic New England secured the largest grant in its history, a total of $3 million over three years, to address
preservation maintenance needs for our historic properties. An anonymous foundation approved $600,000 outright for 2009; $1.2 million for 2010,
which we successfully matched with $600,000 raised elsewhere; and $1.2 million for 2011, which we successfully matched with $1.2 million raised elsewhere.
We believe in maintaining our historic sites to the highest standards. It is what you expect, what our preservation philosophy demands, and most importantly how we serve the public. The Preservation Maintenance Fund will continue to support this work for years to come.
