South border of Watson Farm
Until the first Jamestown Bridge was constructed in 1940, the only way to get on or off the island was by taking a boat. Water was the principal means of transportation route for early settlers. Inland roads were few and very rough. To transport produce and livestock to markets up and down the New England coast, island residents relied on ferries. Ferry landings existed all over the island. At one time there was one at the south border of Watson Farm.
