Red Devon bull
Watson Farm runs a “cow calf operation." This means that the herd consists of mother cows that are bred to one bull. The Red Devon bull can have horns but for safety purposes the horns are removed when they are young. Only one bull runs with the herd at a time. For the most part calves are born in the spring. Calves are selected to be kept as bulls, as replacement heifers to stay with the breeding herd or sold to other farmers who are seeking quality genetics. The rest are raised on the farm for up to two years, entirely on grass, hay, baleage, mineral, and water. These animals provide healthful, nutritious, tender, and tasty beef for local families from throughout the region.
