Schooner

Species: Horse, Born 1992 Breed: Quarter Horse Mix The American Quarter Horse is an American breed that excels at sprinting short distances. Its name came from its ability to outdistance other breeds of horses in races of a quarter mile or less; some individuals have been clocked at speeds up to 55 mph. The American Quarter Horse is the most popular breed in the US today. Schooner eats 10-15 pounds of hay a day and a specially formulated pellet food for senior horses. Schooner was surrendered to the MSPCA by his owner who was unable to care for him. He had been rescued from an auction known for its sale of old or injured horses for slaughter. Schooner has a foot condition known as navicular, and is not ride-able. His sweet disposition makes him a perfect pasture-mate for the sheep and goats at the Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm.
