Anna P. Phillips
The house passed through several hands until 1911, when Anna Pingree (Wheatland) Phillips purchased it. After 14 months of renovations, she, her husband Stephen Phillips, and their son Stevie moved in. The renovations were performed by the well-known architect William Rantoul in the Colonial Revival style. The Colonial Revival was marked by a relationship between tradition and progress, as well as a romanticizing of the colonial period. Architecturally, 34 Chestnut Street was renovated to reflect its Federal heritage.
