Third floor call box
Female domestic staff typically resided in the same home as the family they cared for. The “girls” of the Phillips House, as they were affectionately referred to by the family, were on call twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Scheduled time off was usually Thursday afternoons and all day Sunday, though if they were needed by the family on those days, other time off would have been negotiated. This call box notified the girls if and where they were needed by the family. Another call box is located in the kitchen.
