China closet
Another addition to the house by Rantoul was the china closet off of the dining room. China closets such as this were installed to act as a buffer between the noises, sounds, and smells from the kitchen to the dining room. A pass-through window was installed so that the waitress and cook could communicate and pass food and cookware between the kitchen and china closet. A plate warmer and copper sink were also added by Rantoul to help ease the staff work. Cabinets were installed on both sides of the narrow room to allow for maximum storage of the family’s dinnerware. The service ware on the counter is ready to have dinner plated on them for this evening.
