Bathroom

After the death of her mother, Vipont Merwin and her husband Edward lived at Tranquility on a more permanent basis. To make their year-round home more comfortable, the Merwins renovated their second floor bathroom in the early 1930s. In addition to installing new sink, toilet, and tub fixtures, they built a stand-alone tiled stall for a ten-headed Speakman Mixometer shower. Advertisements for similar products of the time touted that the Mixometer shower had valuable therapeutic properties as well as being the ideal way of bathing - in running water.
