The 600-foot-long peach wall, a dramatic landscape feature, served multiple purposes. It was used for growing peach and pear trees, using the French espalier method in which the tree branches extended horizontally and were wired to wooden supports; it also served as an architectural element separating the more formal gardened area with the wild, native American woodlands beyond; and it is integrated into the greenhouse complex, serving as a heat-retaining wall for the Camellia House. The Garden House contains a door through which one could gain access to the large forested area that once bordered the property.
