Emily Tyson and Sarah Orne Jewett
When the Goodwin family decided to sell Hamilton House, Sarah Orne Jewett made it her mission to find a buyer. In 1898, she succeeded in persuading two wealthy Boston ladies, Mrs. Emily Tyson and her grown stepdaughter Elise Tyson, to purchase the house as a summer home. Under the Tysons' care, Hamilton House was restored and gradually transformed into an elegant Colonial Revival summer estate.
