Great hall
The great hall was likely used for formal occasions by the Gedney family. According to Gedney’s probate inventory from 1683, this room contained the family’s finer furnishings, service ware, and items Gedney may have used in his business. The architectural features in this room include large and chamfered summer and bridging beams, under boarding, a wall with distinctive lathe and plaster work from both the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, and evidence of the 1800 hearths around the original central chimney structure.
