Watercolor by Sarah Codman
The family’s leisure pursuits were typical of their class and social standing in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Music, photography, gardening, collecting, travel, reading, painting, and needlework were some of the pastimes enjoyed by the Codmans. Sarah Codman painted this watercolor of the Codman Estate after a ten-year sojourn to France.
