Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is the Lyman Estate available for rental in 2011?

A: Historic New England, owner and operator of the Lyman Estate, has been awarded a very significant grant that is funding major property care work on both the interior and  exterior of the Lyman mansion throughout the 2011 season.  Therefore, we find it necessary to take a brief hiatus from renting the facility while this project is in progress.

The grant will allow Historic New England to completely retrofit this National Historic Landmark in order to make the building highly energy efficient.  Once completed, we will reopen for 2012 serving as a model for turning historical buildings and function sites “green.”

In the meantime, we are happy to recommend our sister site in Lincoln, Massachusetts, the Codman Carriage House and Gardens.  Call 617-529-1714 to schedule a tour.  We would love the opportunity to introduce you to the Codman Estate.

Q: May I have my wedding ceremony at the Lyman Estate?

A: Yes. You may have your ceremony outdoors on the grounds (weather permitting), or indoors in the beautiful ballroom.

Q: What is the time frame for my event?

A: The Lyman Estate schedules only one event per day, which gives you the flexibility to choose the seven-and-a-half-hour time frame for your party. This includes two hours for the caterer set up, five hours for the party, and a half hour for the caterer clean up.

Q: Will someone from the Lyman Estate be there the day of my event?

A: Yes. In addition to supporting you with your planning, one of our Event Supervisors is here for every event, from start to finish.

Q: Are candles allowed?

A: Due to local fire regulations, candles are not permitted inside or outside on the grounds.  However, battery operated candles are lovely and are allowed.

Q: What about parking?

A: There is ample parking for 100 cars with a parking attendant to direct cars.

Q: Is there air conditioning?

A: Yes, the Lyman Estate is fully air conditioned.

Q: Is the Lyman Estate handicapped-accessible?

A: The mansion's first floor is accessible with an accessible restroom.
